  Previously…

  Brooklyn

  5 p.m.

The sun was setting as I walked down the all-white floral walk way that led up to where my soon-to-be husband was waiting for me. Chrisette Michelle sang “A Couple of Forevers” off the side with a live band. I fought back the tears that were threatening to fall from my face as I made my way up to my superman. Kassidy was my only bridesmaid draped in a beautiful black custom dress she seemed eager for me to make it up to the alter. Khaddo stood behind Khadi in his all-black tux, smiling as well; everything was perfect. The venue had white candles lit everywhere making my dreams of a white candlelit wedding come true. Everything was decorated top of the line thanks to Cotessa Nichole Events, she delivered on everything I asked for. While Khadi spared no expense on our wedding, I would’ve married him down at the courthouse.

I looked up into Khadi’s face smiling with butterflies swarming in my stomach. Who would’ve ever thought I would be standing here with the man who basically forced me from my home to pay off a debt? His lips were moving but I wasn’t hearing a thing he was saying, I was too busy thanking God for blessing me with a love like this. In the short time that I’ve known this man, I’ve falling head over heels for him and this was a feeling I never wanted to go away. He wiped a tear that slipped from the corner of my eye as I focused on what he was saying.

“Brooklyn, I've needed you since the day I laid eyes on you.”

“He ain't lying!!!” Biggs said co-signing, and everyone started laughing. Khadi put his hand up silencing everyone’s laughter. He was so serious about today it was cute.

“Like I said, I needed you since the first day I laid eyes on you. Your smell, your touch, your love; I yearned for it. My home was an empty nest before you came along. You bring so much light, positivity, and fun. There is never a dull moment with you, ma. My brother and Biggs are crazy about you and my sister adores you.” He winked at me. “I’ve become a better man since you came into my life, I promise to cherish and respect you and always protect your mind, body, and soul. Make it real for me, ma…that family life that we talked about on many late nights…make it real for me,” he folded up the piece of paper his vows were written on and slipped it back inside his tux.

The officiant nodded his head at me giving me the ok to read my vows.

“Khadi…my superman…my hero! It's no mistake that you came into my life at the time you did. You repaired my broken heart while showing me what real love feels like. When I first met you and saw how over protective you were over Khali I thought, wow I wish this man felt this way about me…and you do…you do feel that way now and it’s the best feeling in the world, please don’t ever stop. I promise to love you in good times and bad. I promise to cherish you and hold you in highest regard. If you have to carry the world on your shoulders, I will stand shoulder to shoulder with you. And that family life that we’ve talked about on those late nights…” I paused letting another tear slip from eye getting choked up, not caring that I spent three hundred dollars on this beat today. “That family life is here,” I took his hand and rubbed it against my stomach and watched his eyes widened in shock.

“You serious?” he questioned, pulling me in and kissing me lovingly. “You for real?” he pulled away asking me. I was so overwhelmed I could only shake my head, yes.

“Ahem,” the officiant cleared his throat, “Shall we continue?” he asked and everyone laughed.

“My bad my man, go ahead,” Khadi smiled at me giving me a look that let him know he was feeling like he was on top of the world.

“Do you, Khadi Santana Jr. take this woman, Brooklyn Trase to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health?” the officiant rattled off as Khadi plastered a sly grin on his face looking down at me.

“I do,” he intertwined his hands with mine as he slipped the diamond studded band in front of my ten-carat emerald cut ring.

“Brooklyn Trase, do you take this man, Khadi Santana Jr. to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health?”

“I do,” I said sliding the David Yurman three row diamond band on his finger.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss”

Khadi didn’t even let him finish, before he was kissing me all over my face. “You having my baby?” he kept asking in between kisses.

Everything was beautiful from our all white candlelit ceremony to the glamorous over the top reception, everyone was having a great time, drinks were flowing, people were dancing nonstop. I couldn’t remember the last time I was this happy. I was dancing on the floor with Kassidy and my grandmother to Candy by Cameo until Khadi grabbed the mic from the DJ

“Mrs. Santana, can you make your way to the stage, please?” His words slurred into the mic.

I walked over staring at my handsome husband never breaking eye contact with him, He stared at me for what seemed like forever like he was staring into my soul. I stared right back into eyes letting him know that this love was real. Once I made it to the stage he leaned into me and kissed my lips and that familiar smell of his Creed cologne invaded my nostrils getting my juices flowing.

“Mmmmmmm,” I love this man I smiled to myself.

“Tonight has been perfect and on behalf of my wife and I, we want to thank…”

Before he could finish, everyone’s attention went towards the ruckus at the entrance door of the ballroom door security was having trouble with someone.

“Who the fuck is that?” Khadi barked into the microphone. Security moved aside, and everyone gasped as Khaza pushed through.

“This how the fuck we doing this shit, big bro?” Khaza walked through the crowd towards the stage shocking everyone who thought he was still in a coma. I turned towards Khadi, so he could get this situation under control and laid my eyes on the
red dot resting on his chest. “Khadiiiiiii”

  Tat! Tat! Tat!

I screamed trying to push him out the way right before the bullets tore thru his body lifting his body a few feet in the air before he hit the floor. I immediately placed my body on top of his, call me crazy but I’d definitely take a bullet for my husband knowing he’d definitely do the same.

Khaddo, Zilla, and Biggs and a few of his goons opened fire at what seem like thin air as the crowd went into a frenzy but all I could think about was Khadi’s safety.

“Khadi, baby hold on,” I cried as he grabbed on to me for dear life. “Helpppppp Meeeeeeee!” I screamed, I couldn’t believe this was happening…nooooo not today… my man could not die on me today. I shook my head wishing this was a dream, feeling Khadi losing conscious. I could hear the sirens in the distance, “Please, baby don’t leave us.” I begged as he stared at me with hopeless eyes. “Help Meeeeeeeeeee,” I screamed again. Khadi tried speaking but was choking on his blood. “Shhhhhhhhh,” I told him, “Tell me later.” I only hoped I believe what I was saying. “Helllllllllp,” I screamed again as my tears mixed with blood ran down my face.

Khaza grabbed me, “We have to get him to the hospital.”

I jerked away from him pushing him in his chest, “What did you do?” I cried hysterically.

“What the fuck? You think I did this?” he tried picking Khadi up off the ground.

I started hitting him landing punches anywhere I could, “Everything was fine until you came in here. Get your hands off my husband,” I slapped his arms away. “Helppppppppppp,” I screamed and felt a sigh of relief when I saw Khaddo headed our way.

“What the fuck are you doing Brooklyn let Khaza help,” Khaddo barked at me.

“No! I don’t fucking trust him. Khadi don’t fuck with him, therefore I don’t,” I said as the EMTs rolled up with a gurney. Biggs grabbed me up from the floor, so they could do their job.

“Whoa, what the fuck you mean, Khadi don’t trust him? Khaza been in a coma all this time. Khadi would never let you treat our little brother like this, so you need to back off.”

“He hasn’t been in a coma for months,” I revealed the shocking news to everyone.

“Wait someone tell me what the fuck is going on?” Khaddo yelled out of frustration.

“Yeah, Khaza, tell your brother what's going on. How do you get past security and all of a sudden Khadi’s shot?” I questioned.

He stood there unable to answer any questions.

“Stay the fuck away from us!” I yelled taking off my shoes and running behind the EMTs.

“I don’t have a pulse,” was the last thing I heard the EMT say before I passed out.

  Prologue

“Baby, this is perfect!” Brooklyn sat next to me burying her toes in the sand, sipping on a pineapple mojito while I puffed on a Arturo Fuente cigar. This honeymoon to St. Lucia was just what we both needed away from all the tragic things that happened back in Miami. The private resort overlooking the white sandy beach and emerald waters would take the hardest nigga’s breath away.

“I made reservations for us to go into town tonight.” She got up from her chair looking good enough to eat in her two-piece Burberry swimsuit, making her way into my lap and smiled down at me.

“We have a chef here.” I tried arguing with her. The last thing I wanted to do was go into town and mingle with the locals; I booked a private villa for a reason. I wanted to enjoy my sexy wife before our little honeymoon was over.

“Pleaseeeeee, can we go?” she pouted and I almost gave in until I remembered she owed me a favor.

“I tell you what, ma, you hold up your end of the bargain and I’ll hold up mine.” I looked up at her before placing my cigar down in the ashtray on the table that sat next to me. Her eyes turned into slits before her mouth curved into a sexy smirk. I know that shit may have been corny but I’d been begging my wife to fuck me on this beach since we got here. My dick got hard just thinking about it. “Marriage is about compromise, right?” I cocked my head to the side, lifting my straw hat up waiting for her to answer. When she didn’t respond and removed herself from my lap and began slowly walking toward the beach while pulling at the strings of her bikini and letting it fall in the sand, I immediately jumped up and followed her.

Something about the waves crashing against the shore behind me and being knee deep in my pussy had a nigga about to blow a fuse. I was working overtime as the sun began to set, while fucking the dog shit out of my beautiful wife. This shit belonged on a postcard, I thought; leaning down and passionately kissing Brooklyn trying to be romantic and make love to her but she wanted it rough tonight.

She placed her hand on my chest breaking our kiss, “Fuck me.” She stared in my eyes daring me go harder. “You wanted to fuck on the beach, right?” She asked with a grin.

I looked at my beautiful wife. “Yes, I wanted to fuck you on this beach.” She didn’t know just how good she felt.

“Then you better fuck me good.” She moaned, opening her legs wider allowing me full access.

That was all I needed to hear, I was trying to be gentle but if that’s what she wanted, that’s exactly what she was gonna get.

“Ohhhhh…yessssss,” she moaned, licking her lips, while I grinded hard on top of her. She squeezed her titties together and brought them to her mouth, running her tongue across her light brown nipples and that was enough to make me nut the fuck up.

“Throw that pussy back.” I told her before dipping down and helping her suck on her titties like I was a disciple and it was my last supper. She threw that pussy back just like I told her too.

“Baby, I’m…about to cum!” she moaned louder, making my dick harder than calculus.

“You don’t cum ‘til I say so.” I pulled out, lifting her up from the sand, holding her midway in the air while then sliding her back down on my dick ramming in and out of her at a slower pace. “You hear me?” I asked, burying my face in the crook of her neck lightly, biting her. The sweet smell of her was enough for me to shoot her club right back up with another one of my seeds. She kept moaning but didn’t answer me. I pulled back grabbing her neck forcing her to look into my eyes. “You better answer me girl.” I lifted her up slowly off my dick before slamming her back down hard; shaking the sand beneath us.

“Yessssssss,” she moaned right before her legs started shaking as I picked up the pace.

“On three, ma…gon’ head and bless a nigga. 1….2….3.”

“Arghhhhhhh,” she hollered, arching her back, creaming my dick up with her sticky coat as we both experienced an earth-shattering orgasm.

“Damn, baby, that was better than last night.” I laughed, kissing her forehead before pulling my semi-erect dick out of her and falling back on the sand.

“Get up, Khadi, we have reservations in an hour.” She stood up and started walking toward the villa naked, headed to shower.

I laughed to myself at the power of pussy.

The power of my wife’s pussy.

  *****

The bar at the Blue Olive Bar and Restaurant was nice sitting out on top of the water with string lights in the air. I sat at the small wooden table in the corner, sipping on some local cognac that the bartender recommended. The food wasn’t too bad and it was reggae night, so Bob Marley’s “Turn Your Lights Down Low” boomed throughout the speakers, keeping the crowd entertained and giving the place a nice, night life, vibe. I took a sip of my drink watching Brooklyn across the room dancing with some of the residents she’d just met. My wife had the power to draw people in wherever we went.

A smile graced my face; seeing her happy like this was a turn on for me, especially after the loss we took. I stared down at my wedding band still in disbelief that I was married; something I swore off many years ago but here I was with the love of my life ready to restart a family and get out the game soon.

“Baby, I’m feeling a little dizzy. I’m going to run to the bathroom really quick.” Brooklyn walked up tipsy and
sweaty as hell, from the shots we took earlier, breaking my train of thought.

“You need me to come with you?” I sat up in my seat, with a concerned look on my face.

“No…no…. I’ll be right back.” I turned around as she walked off watching her go safely into the bathroom.

“Ayeeeeeee,” the crowd got bucked up as the band switched up the music to a more upbeat reggae song.

I took a puff of my cigar before closing my eyes for a moment and relaxing. Feeling her hands slid down the front of my shirt from behind, I grabbed her arm and kissed it, “You feeling better already?”

  “Now that I see you.”

Hearing the familiarity of her voice and sniffing in the air…she still smelled like Chanel No.5. I jumped up, turning around and locked eyes with her.

  “Toi?”

“Clear!” The doctor placed the defibrillator on my chest.

  Beep! Beep! Beep!

“We have a heartbeat!” The doctor announced and everyone in the operating room started clapping.

  Chapter 1

  Brooklyn

  “Khadi,” I whispered.

“Brooklyn,” I recognized Khali’s voice before I saw her face.

Raising my head and looking down at my twelve-thousand-dollar PninaTornai wedding gown with specks of blood splattered on it. I dropped my head back down on the hospital bed and closed my eyes tightly as thoughts of what happened invaded my mind. I couldn’t stop the tears that started to escape from my eyes.

“No….no…no…Brooklyn, no crying, sis, especially in front of Roselina. A little advice from me: never let her see you sweat.” She walked over to my bed and pulled me up. “The doctor checked on you and the baby and cleared you guys. Now we are just waiting for the doctor to come from the back with good news on Khadi.” She spoke hopefully, while bending down and sliding some hospital slippers on my feet under my dress. “So, when you get out there in the waiting room, hold your head high no matter what that doctor comes out and tells you. Ok?” She pulled me up on my feet making more of a demand than a statement.
